United Way of Pierce County is the Principal Combined Fund Organization (PCFO) for the CFC of South Puget Sound.

The PCFO is the charitable organization selected by the Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC) to administer the
local campaign. The PCFO operates under the direction
and control of the LFCC.

About the CFC

OVERVIEW/HISTORY: With a tradition of commitment to the community through the selfless efforts of federal employees, the CFC has its roots in the many charitable campaigns of the early 1960s. Seeing a need to bring the diversity of fundraising efforts under a single umbrella, the CFC was created by executive order by President Kennedy in 1961. It has become the largest workplace fundraising campaign in the world reaching $275,898,756 across the nation in 2008. By allowing employees to select the organizations of their choice from a single brochure and to make their contributions through payroll deductions, the CFC opened wide the door to more opportunities for generous giving to literally hundreds of worthy causes, in a uniquely effective manner.

The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of federal employees in the Federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations.

All application materials and instructions can be downloaded at CFC APPLICATION PROCESS.

2009 CAMPAIGN GOALS:

  1. Achieve 100% quality contact with all federal employees: This requires Awareness (Informing each federal employee on benefits, impact, and value of the CFC) and Opportunity (personally contacting each employee).
  2. Participation Rate of 30% among those physically present during the campaign. This would mark a 4% increase from 2008.
With 17,000 Fort Lewis Soldiers deployed during the 2009 campaign, due diligence in making the quality ask is even more essential to ensure 100s of non-profit agencies remain able to provide vital services in our community and abroad.
